Picture of Automotive Technology

This course is designed to prepare the student for a career in today's high tech automotive repair industry. The units of instruction are broken down into the same areas used by ASE (National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence). The aim of this course is to provide trainees with a thorough understanding of the methods of servicing and repairing automotive vehicles. Trainees are taught to use the proper factory approved methods of servicing, repairing, and maintaining these vehicles. Skills and attitudes are developed that will produce safe and efficient work habits.

Picture of Business Systems Technology

The Business Systems Technology curriculum emphasizes performance-based competencies, integrating both interpersonal and technological skills.  Multiple entry and exit points are provided to accommodate re-entry and working students.  The curriculum encourages the formation of articulation agreements between secondary and post secondary

Picture of Drafting & CAD Technology

This program includes instruction in basic drafting with the student choosing emphasis in either Architectural or Mechanical drafting. Drafting and CAD Technology offers certificates as well as a diploma in the area of choice. Computer Aided Design is incorporated into both areas of concentration where trainees learn to create accurate and complete drawings using techniques such as red-line drafting.

Picture of Electronics Technology

The Electronics Technology program at the Tennessee Technology Center at Newbern is designed to meet the needs of a wide range of electronics related businesses, such as computer maintenance, medical electronics, office and business machine repair, and the communications industry. The program covers the whole range of electronics so that a student completing this training should be able to go into any field of electronics and have the skills necessary to master that field.

Picture of HVAC/R

HVAC Technicians work on cooling and heating equipment used in commercial and residential buildings. They install and repair equipment ranging in size from small window air conditioners to large central systems. When installing new equipment, the technicians put the motor compressors and other components in place following blueprints and design specifications. The technician connects all pipes, refrigerant lines, ducts, and electrical power sources. The installation job is charged with refrigerant gas and is checked for proper operation.

Picture of Industrial Maintenance

Trainees learn the fundamentals of electricity and electronics which provide the foundation for advanced training in electric motor controls, automated machine control circuits, conveyors, pumps, pneumatic and hydraulic systems, test equipment, production equipment (electrical, electronic, and mechanical), programmable controllers, automation and robotics. In the last phase of the course, students combine all their newly acquired skills in overall systemic troubleshooting and interfacing systems. Hands-on training and safety is stressed throughout the course.

Picture of Machine Tool Technology

Almost every product made by American industry contains metal parts or is manufactured by machines made of metal parts. Many of these parts are cut to precise dimensions by machining workers who use a wide variety of machine tools. Over one million persons are employed as machinists, tool and die makers, instrument makers, machine tool operators, set-up and lay-out people.

Picture of Practical Nursing

A Practical Nurse cares for ill, injured, convalescent, or disabled persons in hospital, clinics, private homes, sanitariums, or similar institutions. Some skills required of a practical nurse are: taking a patient’s vital signs; preparing a patient for surgery, examination, or diagnostic testing; sterilizing, administering, and monitoring equipment like catheters, tracheotomy tubes, and oxygen supplier; assisting a patient with personal hygiene and nutrition; administering prescribed medication; and maintaining a clean and healthy patient environment. Upon successful completion of this course a student will be prepared for entrance into one of the many challenging and profitable areas of nursing, like home health, hospital, doctor’s clinic, or nursing home.
