Practical Nursing
A Practical Nurse cares for ill, injured, convalescent, or disabled persons in hospital, clinics, private homes, sanitariums, or similar institutions. Some skills required of a practical nurse are: taking a patient’s vital signs; preparing a patient for surgery, examination, or diagnostic testing; sterilizing, administering, and monitoring equipment like catheters, tracheotomy tubes, and oxygen supplier; assisting a patient with personal hygiene and nutrition; administering prescribed medication; and maintaining a clean and healthy patient environment. Upon successful completion of this course a student will be prepared for entrance into one of the many challenging and profitable areas of nursing, like home health, hospital, doctor’s clinic, or nursing home.
Applicants must possess a high school diploma or G.E.D. and pass the ACT Compass Test.
