HVAC

HVAC Technicians work on cooling and heating equipment used in commercial and residential buildings. They install and repair equipment ranging in size from small window air conditioners to large central systems. When installing new equipment, the technicians put the motor compressors and other components in place following blueprints and design specifications. The technician connects all pipes, refrigerant lines, ducts, and electrical power sources. The installation job is charged with refrigerant gas and is checked for proper operation.

Most jobs for HVAC Technicians are found with dealers and contractors who specialize in selling and servicing cooling and heating equipment.

When equipment breaks down or is not operating properly, the air conditioning mechanic diagnoses the cause and makes the necessary repairs. This requires a basic knowledge of refrigeration, air conditioning systems, and electrical troubleshooting, as well as the ability to use the proper test equipment.

This program is designed to serve students who are interested in training for a career in the heating, ventilation, air conditioning/refrigeration field. Since students entering this program are from varied backgrounds and abilities, the Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning/Refrigeration Technology program provides individualized training and equal opportunities for every student to develop their technical skills and knowledge at the most expedient rate of time possible.
