TTC Newbern Quiz Bowl Team Wins Silver Medal at SkillsUSA National Competition

On Friday, June 25, at Kemper Arena in Kansas City, Missouri, the 2010 National SkillsUSA Quiz Bowl Medalists were announced and include team members from the Tennessee Technology Center at Newbern: Donna Callins, Ricky Mercer, Franklin Gaylor, David Lewsader, and Wesley Inman. The team was coached by Dottye Webb, Technology Foundations Instructor and SkillsUSA Advisor.

Coach Dottye Webb explains that competition at the national level of SkillsUSA includes the nation’s top two percent of career-technical members and gold medal winners from their respective states. Ms. Webb was overjoyed as her quiz bowl team won the school’s first SkillsUSA national medal.

Ms. Webb explains that her team was extremely prepared and knowledgeable. The quiz bowl competition tests a team’s knowledge of academics, professional development, and current event topics in both written format and live rounds of competition. "While each member has a unique background, all have a common thread that binds them—a strong work ethic. This is a requirement for having a dedicated, prepared team."
