Technology Foundations
All full-time students entering the Tennessee Technology Centers are required to take an assessment test to determine if they meet the levels as determined by their technical program.
The Technology Foundations Program offers an individualized, self-paced curriculum using the KeyTrain curriculum and software system to teach foundational workplace skills as defined by ACT's WorkKeys system. KeyTrain is a targeted computer based curriculum written specifically to help students master the applied workplace skills as defined by ACT WorkKeys.
The KeyTrain curriculum includes instruction for all levels in 9 educational workplace skills. The system includes: Reading, Math, Locating Information, Writing, Business Writing, Applied Technology, Observation, Listening, and Teamwork. It provides a comprehensive learning system for common skills required by all jobs, based on ACT's WorkKeys employment system. The training will assist in preparing our students to be better employees with the necessary skills to perform in the workplace.
KUDER Career Assessment Service
The Kuder Career Assessment is a comprehensive, research based approach to career exploration, planning, and development. The Kuder assessment is a free service provided by TTC Newbern for prospective students and newly-enrolled first time students. While designed to be self-paced and self-interpreted, support and counsel is also offered.
Individuals are assessed in three areas: skills, values, and personal interest. The Kuder Career Search scientifically helps individuals discover their career interest. Results are presented in rank order of career cluster preferences and include a listing of occupations within each career cluster. The results are compared to a database of 2,000 individuals working in today’s occupations. Occupational bios are presented for the 14 closest matches in the top two career clusters. In addition, individuals can build a career portfolio to prepare a resume and access links to additional career development resources.
Individuals interested in taking the Kuder Career Assessment may call Dottye Webb, Technology Foundations instructor, at (731) 627-2511 to schedule a date and time. The assessment takes approximately one hour and is a free service.
